Fire restrictions lifted in Chippewa National Forest

Due to recent rainfall and greening conditions, the Chippewa National Forest has removed all restrictions on campfires on national forest lands. Previously, due to extreme fire danger across all of northern Minnesota, the Forest Service had prohibited campfires, charcoal and wood-burning campstoves within the Chippewa National Forest.

LLAWF Collaborates with Cass County on $300,000 State Grant

Beginning July 1, Cass County Environmental Services launched a new project "Conserving Sensitive and Priority Shorelands in Cass County" in collaboration with the Leech Lake Area Watershed Foundation (LLAWF). Cass County is receiving $300,000 in funding for the project from the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.

Woman Lake's Lantern Bay Protection Completed

After five years of work and multiple conservation projects involving the Leech Lake Area Watershed Foundation, the Child, Girl, Woman Lake Property Owners Association (CGWLPOA), dedicated individuals, and willing conservation-minded landowners, the Minnesota DNR now owns 5,000+ feet of shoreline in Lantern Bay of Woman Lake.
