HCN Storm fall to MIB
The Hill City/Northland Storm hosted top ranked Mountain Iron-Buhl at Hill City on December 4th. The Rangers came out with their full court, high-pressure defense and offensively dominated on the perimeter. It took a while to adjust, but the Storm eventually did better on breaking the press and settling into half court play. Despite a great effort, the Storm fell to Mountain Iron with a score of 34 to 99.
Top scorers were Ashlyn Schwarz with seven points, six rebounds and Nora Wake with seven points and four rebounds. Charity Berg and Gauge Lego each contributed five points.
“Right now MIB is ranked number 1 in class A for a reason. They are very disciplined and have put a lot of time into the game during the off-season. We try to focus on the positives though when you play a team like this. Considering the high-pressure on defense we shot pretty well as a team, shooting 38% and we improved on breaking the press as the game went on. We will be facing a few other highly ranked teams this year, so hopefully it won’t be as intimidating next time. Due to sickness and an injury we also had to play girls with very little varsity experience and they did a great job,” said Alec Wake.
Due to bad weather, the Storm’s game vs. International Falls was postponed on Dec. 9th and will be made up at a later time.
The Storm traveled to East Central Dec. 11 and Bigfork Dec. 15. The girls will then finish the month with a home game in Remer Dec. 19 against Carlton-Wrenshall.
