Friends of the Pine River Library summer book sale round 2
In conjunction with Community-wide Garage Sale Days, the Friends of the Pine River Library will host round #2 of their 2026 summer book sale series at the Commercial Building on the Cass Co. Fairgrounds in Pine River, Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1.

Sunday, July 19, was the annual Backus Lions Fly-in Pancake Breakfast. The day was beautiful, even with the warm weather, and the turnout by local community and surrounding area friends was exceptional.

Minnesota to pilot new kindergarten assessment this fall
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) announced that 70 schools from 45 districts and charter schools will partner with MDE this fall to pilot the Minnesota Kindergarten Fall Assessment (MnKFA), an observation-based approach designed to be embedded in everyday classroom experiences, such as communication, problem-solving and play.
