100 Years Ago

October 6, 1926

   Last Monday Mrs. Otto Lukenbill of Federal Dam received word that her son Earl had been killed by a runaway horse. He was 22 years of age. He will be buried at Remer.

   Frank Cloud and Sam Hunt have moved back to Onigum from Red Cedar Point where they have been camping for a month.

   Mabel Bragg, who is teaching school in Backus, spent the weekend at the home of her sister, Mrs. L. W. Orton.

Oct. 10, 1951

   Seventy years of married life will be observed by Mr. and Mrs. John Brown of Boy River on October 15th.

   Larry Miller, Federal Dam and Rose Marie Weise, Cass Lake, applied for a marriage license on October 8th.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Woodruff are the parents of a son born September 3rd, Ross William. They recently moved to Minneapolis where he is employed. They spent the weekend with his father Lural in Hackensack.

September 30, 1976

  The Swine Flu or New Jersey Flu is a new virus first isolated in February. A first-time national immunization campaign is underway with vaccinations being administered throughout Cass County.

   Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Chalich on their new twin boys born on September 21st. They weighed in at 6 pounds and 5 lbs. 6 ozs.

   Several folks from Federal Dam attended the open house for Jerry and Jeanne Bader on Sunday at their new home.

October 6, 2001 

   James “Al” Norris, 79, died September 29th. He was born in Forest City, Mo. to Orville and Nellie Norris. He lived in Fargo from 1966 to 1975. He then moved to Hackensack and served as supervisor for Birch Lake township for 12 years.

   Taylor Renee Tschida, a 7 lb. 5 oz. baby girl was born to Kendall and Alissa Tschida and big sister, Lauren of Remer on July 29th.
