   Hackensack will celebrate Oktoberfest in true Hackensack style on Saturday, Oct. 3, with the return of Hacktoberfest.

   The annual event invites residents and visitors to get out, enjoy the community and spend the day with friends while taking in Oktoberfest beers, food, games, contests, prizes and plenty of laughs.

   This year’s participating locations are Birchwood Char House & Bar, Barrel & Vine, Hackensack Muni and the American Legion. Wagons will roll through town, giving participants a chance to visit each stop and take part in the activities planned throughout the day.

   Wagons start rolling at 10:45 a.m. 

   The day’s activities include:

   • 11 a.m. – Hammerschlagen at Hackensack Muni

   • Noon – Stein Holding at Birchwood

   • 1 p.m. – Hammerschlagen at the American Legion

   • 2 p.m. – Keg Rolling at Hackensack Muni

   • 3 p.m. – Pretzel Eating Contest at Barrel & Vine

   • 4 p.m. – Hammerschlagen at Birchwood

   • 5 p.m. – Stein Holding at the American Legion

   • 6 p.m. – Costume Contest at Barrel & Vine

   Food will be available all day, and prizes will be awarded for each contest.

   Participants are encouraged to hop on the wagons, hop off at each stop and enjoy what each location has planned. The event provides an opportunity to meet new people, catch up with old friends and make some new memories along the way.

   Those looking to get into the Oktoberfest spirit are also encouraged to dress the part. Dirndls and lederhosen are welcome. Dressing up isn’t required, but organizers say it can make the day even more fun.

   So grab your friends, come hungry and make a day of it.
