  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

October 13, 1926

   Avery Emery was reminded that Sunday was his birthday as several of his friends gathered at his home in Pine Lake Sunday afternoon.

   Robert M. Bloyer and Miss Cora Clemons of Remer were married October 9th. For several months last spring, he had charge of the local telephone exchange.

   Miss Pearl Tabaka of Longville, who is teaching near Swatara, spent the weekend at home.

 75 Years Ago

October 17, 1951

   Allan Bradshaw of Hackensack was awarded the Caleb Dorr scholarship at the North Central School of Agriculture at Grand Rapids where he is finishing post-graduate work before entering the U of MN.

   A feller at Remer named Renn, once wound up his clock called Big Benn, and he set the alarm, so the folks on the farm, could all be through breakfast by ten.

   A 6-pound 12.5 ounce baby boy was born to Mrs. William Fox of Whipholt at the Walker Hospital on October 14th.

50 Years Ago

October 6, 1976

  Mary Jo Smith-Monroe has earned the Child Develop Associate Consortium. 

Mary Jo and Clyde are parents of three children. She is the lead teacher at Onigum Headstart and has been on staff there for the past four years.

   Rodney and JoAnne Osterloh are the new owners of Station 6 & 34, Inc. at Remer and have purchased the business from Harold and Ginny Langenbacher. 

   Mr. and Mrs. James Ware of Pine River were the Thursday dinner guests of W. A. Rogers at Inguadona township.

25 Years Ago

October 13, 2001 

   Samuel Mitchell, 69, died September 28th. He was born April 4, 1933, to Bert and Josephine Cummings Mitchell in Onigum. He grew up in Remer and attended boarding school at Pipestone. An Air Force veteran, he worked at the Ford Motor Co. in Ohio and in 1969 worked for the same company at Minneapolis. He retired to Sugar Point in 1985.

   Julian Pfannenstein died October 11th. He was born in St. Joseph. He moved to Bena where he worked for his uncle as a logger. He married Wilma Wolska on June 22, 1948. He worked for the Hanna Mining Company for 30 years before retiring and moving back to Federal Dam.
