100 Years Ago
June 10, 1926
The high winds of Sunday and Monday played havoc with the telephone system here. The Bell Telephone Co. is erecting a metallic line direct from Brainerd to Longville.
George Taylor and Lucy Fairbanks were granted a marriage license on June 4th.
A Cass County feller named Jake, helped Pine River folks dedicate, but a moderate breeze, from a fresh Sweitzer cheese, made him cough up his Norwegian cake.

Billie Manders is working at Coleraine for the summer. Wayne Johnson is spending the week with his cousin at Aitkin.
While fishing off the bridge in Boy River, Jake Whitted was overturned by a big walleye and fell into the river and is now laid up with a broken rib.
Hattie Aitkin, daughter of Chief Bemidji and his wife, died suddenly at age 48. She attended the Indian Mission School at Cass Lake and also the Onigum Indian school. She married Joe Aitkin in 1925 and they had 9 children; 7 are living.

The Remer Ambulance Service has been ordered to cease further services after June 14th. The present crew, with the exception of Harold Brown, does not meet training requirements.
Rita King from Blind Lake township is working at the Owl’s Nest in Hackensack.
Mrs. Ralph Felton received a letter from her grandson, Oscar, and he is working with the Tyonek Timber Co. in Alaska, near Fairbanks. Jerry Berge, who is working with Oscar, had his leg broken in several places and is recuperating.

Camp Olson is offering a Community Open House and Gala Day sponsored by them and the Northland Area Family Services for a day of family activities: swimming, canoeing, square dancing, and a campfire to name a few.
Ralph Thurlby, age 66, was born to Manches and Gertrude (Franklin) Thurlby and graduated from Remer High School in 1954. He married LaDonna Huff on May 28, 1960, in Swatara. He was employed by the Blandin Paper Mill for 31 years. He died May 29th.
Zion Lutheran Church of Boy River has named Daniel Croonquist of Grand Rapids its new pastor.
