Rendezvous for a Cause fundraiser to benefit Lakeside Park

A major effort is underway to revitalize Hackensack’s Lakeside Park with a new, modern playground designed to serve children of all abilities. The $525,000 project aims to create a safe, inclusive and engaging space that encourages physical activity, social interaction and outdoor play for local youth and visiting families. A new shade pavilion in the playground and a multipurpose structure that can host the weekly summer Lakeside Concerts, weddings, family parties and more are also part of the plans.

Hackensack’s Park Committee has been working on this project since November of 2024 and the need for the project is clear. The updated playground will provide opportunities for climbing, balancing and active play in a beautiful setting along the shores of Birch Lake. Lakeside Park serves as a central gathering place, the improvements will benefit residents, visitors from neighboring towns and the area’s strong seasonal tourism economy.

Fundraising efforts for the project are already gaining momentum. The campaign was launched with a $40,000 pledge from the Hackensack Lions. First National Bank North followed with a $40,000 contribution, which included a $30,000 matching grant from the FederalHome Loan Bank of Des Moines Member Impact Fund. The Bernick’s Family Foundation contributed $27,000 in February 2026. Additional pledges and contributions have been received from trusts, individuals and other organizations. These early investments have helped build excitement and confidence as the community works toward the full funding goal. The Park Committee is applying for a 50% matching grant from the Department of Natural Resources’ Outdoor Recreational Grant Program.

To continue that momentum, organizers are inviting the public to a “Rendezvous for a Cause” fundraising party on April 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Rendezvous Brewing. The event will feature a silent auction, food, and opportunities to learn more about the playground design and project plans. Raffle tickets for a 50/50 drawing are currently available for $5, with the winning ticket drawn at 5 p.m. during the event.

Organizers hope the combination of community support, local partnerships, and fundraising events will help bring the vision for Hackensack Lakeside Park to life, creating a lasting asset that promotes health, inclusion and play for generations to come.
