Storm continued their winning streak before the break

Right before Christmas the Hill City/Northland Storm girls basketball team finished their 2025 schedule before heading into the New Year.

On December 19, they hosted Carlton/Wrenshall at Northland high school. The girls played well and easily beat The Raptors with the score of 68 to 40.

Nora Wake had 21 points, 13 rebounds and five steals. Carsyn Nihart contributed 12 points and Maddie Barnes added 10 points. Charity Berg had nine points and six assists while Maddie King pulled down 13 rebounds.

On December 22, they traveled to International Falls to take on the Broncos. The Storm came out with a commanding lead and never looked back, winning the game 72–29.

Wake finished the game with 28 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Jasmine Kingsley had 17 points, Berg finished with eight points, eight assists and six steals. Barnes also contributed seven points while Ashlyn Schwarz boarded 15 rebounds.

“We are starting to play really well, the I’Falls  game was the best game we’ve had all year. The Broncos are a better team than what the score shows, but we handled their press, shot well and controlled the boards. Hopefully, we don’t take a step backwards going into the break. We have a couple of weeks off here and that can sometimes hurt a team,” said Head Coach Alec Wake. “We have a very busy month ahead of us. I think we have like 11 games in January, if we can play like we have in the last couple of games, we should do well.”

The Storm began the new year with a rematch against BigFork on Jan. 5 in Hill City before traveling to Silver Bay on Jan. 8. On Sat., Jan. 10 the Storm will then host Ely in Remer with the Varsity girls playing at 11:30 a.m. and on Jan 12 they travel to Chisholm.
