Pine River Seed Library to open for 2025 season
The Pine River Seed Library will open for the season on March 4th. Thanks to an increase in seed donations from seed library friends and members, the library has been able to increase the amount and variety of seeds available. Vegetable seeds are available to borrow as well as some flowers and herbs. Borrowers can find a selection of different kinds of squash, cucumbers, beans, lettuce, peas, radishes, greens, corn, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, beets, rutabagas, and melons.
The Seed Library encourages people who borrow seeds to grow some of their produce to full maturity so they, too, can harvest seed in the Fall. Seed Library staff are available to provide guidance and resources for seed saving. If gardeners succeed in raising seed from their produce and returning some seed to the library, it will become more self-sustaining.
Hours are 12:00 to 3:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or by appointment. The Seed Library is located within the Pine River Public Library, 212 Park Ave., Pine River. To make an appointment, learn more about the Seed Library, or ask questions about saving seed, call Barbara at 218-587-2326.
