National Weather Service seeks volunteers
Through the month of October, we are actively recruiting new observers through the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network - also known as CoCoRaHS. This is a unique, non-profit, community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail and snow). Our CoCoRaHS observers are a vital part of our operations here at NWS Duluth and they provide high quality data for natural resources, education and research applications well beyond the National Weather Service.
You may have seen our recent surge of CoCoRaHS information on our social media. In the month of October, we are specifically focused on recruiting observers who are interested in measuring and reporting wintertime precipitation - snowfall, snow depth, and snow water equivalent. Those who sign up this month will gain access to special live training with NWS Duluth meteorologists to teach them all about winter time observations - no experience is necessary and anyone can join! If folks are interested, they can go to cocorahs.org to learn more and sign up.
If you have any questions about this program, or are interested in helping us promote the program on your own platforms, please feel free to contact our office or our local CoCoRaHS team - Steve Gohde and Ketzel Levens at [email protected] and [email protected] respectively. You are always welcome to share the materials we put on our social media as well!
