Career Pathways for Northland High School Students
By By Mary Yakibchuk, Interim Superintendent Northland Community Schools | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment
Northland High School (NCS) is excited to offer the Itasca Area Schools Collaborative (IASC) NEXT Career Pathways to our students. The NEXT Career Pathways program provides students with a series of courses that are related to specific career areas. These courses offer a progressively deeper dive into a career exploration, starting with an introduction, then a more thorough exploration and eventually an extension into these careers. The program is rich with hands-on learning and community connections and is designed to excite students and give them the skills they need to become employed.
Northland Community Schools currently offer the following Career Pathways for our students: Healthcare, Manufacturing, Education and Construction with plans to offer Business and Automotive pathways, starting next year. Students interested, begin the program by taking introductory courses in their chosen pathway. Those who continue in the pathway take additional related courses, rich with hands-on learning and career-connected activities such as business and industry tours, guest speakers, work based learning and more. In some cases, students end their pathway experience with a Capstone Project, providing them with unique opportunities to apply and show-case what they’ve learned by actually working in the field during school hours.
Northland Community Schools is excited to offer these enriching career focused programs to students, and we would love to share more about the program with those interested. For parents, students or potential business partners who want to learn more about, or participate in, IASC NEXT Career Pathways program, please contact the NCS High School Counselor, Scott Peterson.
