Walker Talkers continue success at Talk of the Tigers

The morning of February 17th brought another 6:15 a.m. bus loading time for the Walker Talkers as they were on their way to a new tournament on the schedule this year, The Talk of the Tigers Speech Tournament hosted by Browerville-Eagle Valley. The team included most speakers for this tournament and the speakers were ready for a tough day of competition.

Because of this tournament’s large size, speaking times were “flighted” meaning some categories went first in the round and other categories spoke later. This made for a long day with two preliminary speaking rounds and a final and honor final round. However, the design provided great opportunities for all of the speakers in attendance to see what other speakers from around the region are performing and presenting in their speeches this year.

Close to twenty schools from around the region and teams of all sizes were in attendance at The Talk of the Tigers in Browerville. With that being said, The Walker Talkers proved that they were up for the competition. This tournament offered finals and honor finals which took the top six speakers and next six speakers into one, last round of speaking respectively. The Walker Talker’s results for honor finals are as follows. Alison Kimball placed third in Drama, Abagayle Audette placed first in Informative, and Zoe Cox placed fifth in Poetry. In finals, Elijah Cox and Madison Kendrick placed first in Duo, Abagayle Audette placed fourth in Extemporaneous Reading, Lola Krueckeberg placed third in Poetry, Elijah Cox placed first in Prose, Madison Kendrick placed second in Prose, and Elaina Dascalos placed sixth in Prose. As a team, The Walker Talkers placed second in the large school division, winning over New

London-Spicer and falling to the speech team from Staples Motley.

The team will be back on the JV speech circuit this week at the Cass Lake Junior High/Novice Speech Meet where the speakers have traditionally spoken extremely well! Then, this weekend the entire team will compete at the 19th Annual Bemidji Lumberjack Varsity

Invitational.
