100 Years Ago

October 11, 1923

   Goldie Chase had the misfortune to break her arm Saturday when she fell off a load of hay and broke her arm in two places.

   Blind Lake is doing some good work on the road between Wabedo and the Old Grade. 

   Alfred Boe made a trip to Walker one day this week by a team of horses.

75 Years Ago

October 8, 1948

   Thirteen Hundredths of an inch of rain was the heaviest rainfall registered in Cass County. The state Game & Fish Dept. stated that if the dryness continued, duck hunting season may be cancelled.

   Mrs. Arola, Shirley, and Willie visited in Toad Lake Sunday, the former home of Mrs. Arola.

October 11, 1973

   Remer opened their Senior Citizens Center on October 1st. Almost a full house enjoyed an excellent ham dinner.

   Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Good of Federal Dam announce the engagement of their daughter, Phyllis to Arlyn Wilkening, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wilkening of rural Walker.  Arlyn is part of the staff at Zion Harbor.

   Nancy Kral, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Kral of Remer, and Floyd Schmitz, son of David Schmidt of Nevis were married August 4th at St. Paul’s Catholic church.

October 13, 1998 

   Rex Kinsey of Boy Lake took a 199-pound, 16 point Whitetail with a bow and arrow Thursday evening.

   The Longville Area Family Center is sponsoring a Winter Wear Share Coat Drive and will be collecting usable kids winter wear through October.

   The Longville Community Choir, under the direction of Jack Schaffer, has begun rehearsing for its annual Christmas concert. Accompanist is Jan Elliott.
