In a world often dominated by self-interest and fast-paced living, there are individuals like Lorraine Enos of Hackensack who remind us of the incredible impact of kindness and dedication. Over the past 16 years, Lorraine has devoted more than 2,530 hours of her life to volunteer work with Faith in Action for Cass County, touching the lives of 192 people in her community, one ride and visit at a time.

Lorraine, a retiree with a heart full of compassion, started her volunteer journey over a decade ago when she decided to dedicate her free time to helping those in need. Her primary mission was to provide transportation to individuals who were unable to drive themselves, and her work quickly evolved to include companionship visits for those who may be isolated or lonely.

Lorraine’s dedication and selflessness have not gone unnoticed by the people she has assisted over the years. Her impact goes far beyond the practical help she provides; she also offers friendship, conversation, and emotional support to those who may be in challenging situations.

One of the individuals she had helped, Vergie, a 91-year-old widow, had this to say about Lorraine: “Lorraine is a true blessing in my life. She’s been driving me to my doctor’s appointments and even just for errands when I can’t drive. But more than that, she’s become a dear friend. I look forward to our weekly chats, and her presence in my life has made all the difference.”

Lorraine’s story is a testament to the power of volunteerism, demonstrating that one person can make an immense difference in the lives of many. Her 2,530 hours of service may seem like a statistic, but it represents countless moments of care, compassion, and community building.

Lorraine’s incredible journey is an inspiration to all of us. It serves as a reminder that we can all contribute to making the world a better place, one small act of kindness at a time. Her example encourages us to take a step toward volunteering and reaching out to our neighbors, knowing that we too can create positive change in our communities.

If you would like to join Lorraine in her mission or support her cause, you can contact Faith in Action for Cass County at 218-675-5435 to get involved. Faith in Action is a nonprofit volunteer program that matches volunteer time and talents with needs in the community. Volunteers can choose what, when and how much they want to do. Most needs are for transportation, food delivery, light homemaking or chore help, friendly visits, phone calls, or building ramps or basic home repairs. And if you are looking for something else, we can point you in the right direction.

Lorraine’s story reminds us that a little kindness can go a long way, and together, we can make our world a more compassionate and caring place.
