EMS Week May 21-27
Remer Area Ambulance Service (RAAS) is proud to acknowledge this year’s EMS week, May 21-27, 2023. Those of us who are a part of this wonderful organization really understand the dedication it takes to be a part of a volunteer ambulance service. As I’m writing this, the fourth call of the day just came over the pagers. That means that a few volunteers are throwing on some decent clothes, grabbing the pager and a radio and racing to the building to meet at the ambulance service or possibly going straight to the scene. They won’t get back for 2-3 hours. Hopefully they’ve had dinner already, or it will get reheated. Some employers are generous and allow for the worker to be a little late. Or we’ll operate on a few hours of sleep, hoping for a quieter night tomorrow.
Am I saying this to scare you all away, no! I’m constantly recruiting new members, hoping you’ll choose to join and see how fulfilling this way of life is. We get to help people who are just holding on to life, have a tragic accident, are having a mental illness episode, have fallen and can’t get up, or are scared and need someone to hold their hand through it.
These people deserve a ton of recognition, but most would rather serve quietly. If you work with them, or see them around town, give them a quiet, “thanks!” Chief Diane Ammerman, Dave Anderson, Terri Datzman, Pat Dysart, Mindi Genz, Kayla Harris, Lyndsay Hausken, Manja Holter, Sarah Holter, Carol Kloehn, Shiela Lego, Vicki Nelson, Carol Procopio, Lynn Remington, Sarah Rice, Lynn Schneider, Lori Sizenbach, Cindy Thompson, Jennifer Welk, Gene Wempner and announcing our newest EMR’s fresh out of class: Brad Huber, Jordan Sawatzky, Jarrett Glanz.
