100 Years Ago

April 5, 1923

   Elizabeth Clark and Rubena Bluhm of Inguadona left Monday morning for school in Backus.

   Ole Henderson of Federal Dam left Monday to work on the dredge. Two Chase children have just moved to Federal Dam from Swatara.

   Ben Mayer, Elmer Lott and Major Skinner of Wabedo have been helping at the sawmill this week.

75 Years Ago

March 26, 1948

   Edgar and Alma Johnson owned the Longville Hotel for 12 years and sold it in 1942 and retired to their home on Girl Lake. Edgar died March 12th.

   A Basket Social and Old Time Dance, with music by the Bredesons, will be held at the Whipholt school on Saturday April 3rd

   Otilla Augusta Hechell came to the US at age 17. She married John Chris Bonick a year later. They took out a homestead on Boy Island in 1912 and were among the first pioneers of the community. She died March 5th.

50 Years Ago

March 29, 1973

   There were 11 votes cast at the Blind Lake election Tuesday: Tracy Shepard for supervisor and Mrs. Ina Shepard for Treasurer.

   The Lutheran church at Federal Dam is getting a new coat of paint on the interior.

   A group of Congregational church ladies packed the completed layettes and delivered them to Onigum.

25 Years Ago

March 31, 1998 

   Ruth Bishop (9/11/1913-3/8/1999) worked for Honeywell during WWII. Her husband Ancil worked road construction. They moved to Longville in 1955. Ruth was postmaster here for 20 years, retiring in 1975.

   Roof trusses for Mark’s Market in Hackensack were set last week. Mark Biessener is undergoing a major expansion that will double the size of the facility.

   The Centennial National Bank of Walker has broken ground in Hackensack at Hwy. 371 and County Road 5.
