100 Years Ago
Sept. 15, 1921
An additional eight miles of the Walker-Remer road will be completed next year. It will still not be completed into Remer.
A community picnic will be put on by the Farm Bureau Units of the townships of Birch Lake, Woodrow and Hiram and will be held in Hackensack on September 29th.
The Longville Welfare Society will have a Chicken Pie Supper and Bazaar at Longville on October 31st.
75 Years Ago
Sept. 13, 1946
Faye Hendrickson, Clarice Brown, Wm. Sjoblom, and Robert Nicklason, all of Remer, will leave to attend business school in Minneapolis.
Virginia Countryman, who is taking a nurse’s training course at Franklin Hospital, came home to south Boy River to take care of her grandmother.
James “Woody” Ward moved into the teacherage, so as to be near his custodian duties at the schoolhouse. He was custodian back in early 1920s.

Sept. 9, 1971
Army Private First Class Charles Nelson, son of Ellen J. Nelson of Remer, was promoted to his present rank on August 10th.
Remer District Ranger Francis Voytas has announced that the US Forest Service has completed construction of a dam about 4 miles southeast of Remer as part of the Chippewa National Forest Wetland Development Program.
Ground was broken August 31 for a $2 million shopping mall to be built in Grand Rapids by Goldfine’s Inc, of Duluth.

Sept. 3, 1996
Mary Dubbs died July 16, 1996. The Dubbs family lived in Remer around 1947 where they operated a hardware store in the building that was Hazel’s Restaurant for many years.
Irene Martin died August 22nd. She was born December 25, 1908. She married William Martin in 1928. She worked at the Remer Forestry Station and the Remer Hardware store.
Jan Mussak was elected MREA president at the July Board of Directors and is the first president from the Iron Range. She is also a board member in Remer/Longville District. #118.
