Senior Celebration slated for Tuesday, Sept. 14


WALKER - The 3rd Annual Senior Celebration, a fun and informative event for area baby boomers and seniors, will be held Tuesday, September 14th at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The theme of "Are You In Your Right Mind?" proposes to focus on the aging brain with discussion on just what is a healthy brain, how to "Age Proof" you mind, and discover simple things you can do to keep your mind active.[[In-content Ad]]Guest speakers Krisie Charnley of Horizon Health Faith in Action, and Tammy Jopp of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, will discuss the difference

between the normal brain, the aging brain and signs of dementia and other brain disease. They will show how to "Age Proof" the mind with food, physical motivation and games. Studies show that mental exercises can remain effective for 5 years. Discover many simple things you can do to keep your

mind active. You can check out your own brain "Q" and take control of your brain health.

In the session breaks, participants can visit approximately 25 resource exhibits on a wide range of topics. There will also be free blood sugar and blood pressure checks and door prizes. Morning refreshments will be provided. There is no cost for this event and there is no pre-registration -- just plan to come and have fun. Last year's event drew over 75 people.

The Senior Celebration is sponsored by a collaborative group of Cass County senior providers including Cass County Health, Human and Veterans Services, Lutheran Social Services, Central Minnesota Council on Aging, Faith in Action for Cass County, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Golden Living Center, Hackensack Senior Class Assisted Living, and May Creek
