Remer to kick-off their centennial year Saturday with the Festival of the Falling Snow Flakes
Activities begin at noon and continuing throughout the afternoon near the fire hall.
The festival will include a bon fire, coin hunt, snow ball toss, snow ball eating contest, sled dog rides for the kids while waiting for the dog sleds to cross the finish line.
A chili cook-off/feed will be held at the fire hall. All chili chefs should plan on bringing their entries to the Fire Hall at noon. The first 20 chefs to bring chili will receive a special Chili Chef Hat. The chili feed will run from 2 to 5 p.m., or until the chili runs out. For $6.50, chili eaters can eat all they want and vote on their personal favorite. Hot dogs, beverages and desserts will also be available. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the day. The evening will conclude with the Centennial Snow Ball at the The Pub. Participants in the Centennial Ball are encouraged dress up in clothing from their favorite decade. Door prizes and best costume prizes will be awarded.
The Mid-Minnesota 150 Dog Sled Race, consisting of three classes, will set out on the Soo Line Trail at different locations, all ending at the finish line in Remer.
The Dog Pro Class race is 80 miles long. The class starts at 9 a.m., at the Bungelow Supper Club, in Emily, and will have a one hour layover in Outing, before heading out on the final leg to Remer.
The 8 Dog Pro Class course is 50 miles in length and starts 10 minutes after the 80 mile teams are on their way. Race Finishes in Outing at the Village Inn.
Finally, the 6 Dog Recreational Class, will take a 30 mile trek on the Soo Line Trail from Outing to Remer. Mushers meeting is at 11 a.m., start time will be Noon at the Village Inn, in Outing.
