Longville Chamber, merchants and organizations make plans for an old fashioned Christmas celebration


A warm and friendly atmosphere will be the setting for residents and visitors in Longville, when the holiday season gets underway this week.

Wednesday, Nov. 24, the Longville Ecumenical Thanksgiving Evening Service will begin at 7 p.m., at Salem Lutheran Church.

Longville Bible Chapel will have a free Souper Supper at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Thanksgiving Service at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Nov. 27, the Longville Area Women of Today will sponsor photos with Santa from 2 until 4 p.m., at Common Grounds. There is a charge for photos.

Longville's Old Fashioned Christmas kick-off will begin with free hot dogs, hot chocolate and cookies from 4 until 5 p.m., in front of Frosty's. A Christmas carol sing-a-long is planned for 4:30 through 5 p.m., in front of Lori's Luvs, and will include the lighting of the Christmas tree at the junction of Co. Rd. 5 and State Hwy. 84.

The Longville Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, along with Longville area merchants and organizations, have holiday activities, open houses, programs planned to help everyone get in the mood for an old fashioned Christmas. Area merchants will be offering specials and promotions throughout the Christmas season, along with a large helping of hometown customer service. The following is a list of special events scheduled:

Friday, Dec. 3 - Open house at First National Bank of Walker, in Longville, also at other First National Bank of Walkeroffices in Hackensak, Backus, Walker and Akeley.[[In-content Ad]]

Tom and Kathy Dollins and their crew will hold an open house at Arrowhead Builders Supply, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 4 - The women of St. Edwards Catholic Church's annual Bake and Craft Sale will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Stop in for some coffee and goodies at Common Grounds' open house, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 5 - the Longville Community Choir Concert starts at 4 p.m., at Salem Lutheran Church.

Friday, Dec. 10 - Open house, 10 a.m until 3 p.m., at Woodland Bank, Longville, also at other Woodland Bank offices located in Remer, Deer River, Cohasset, Jenkins, Hill City and Grand Rapids.

The Gallery of Homes will be hosting their open house from 1 until 4 p.m.

The Margaret Welch Memorial Library in Longville's open house, hosted by the Friends of the Longville Library, is from 1 to 4 p.m.

Carrie's Red Bird Cafe and Bakery's open house will be from 4 until 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 11, Salem Lutheran Church will be the location for the Swedish Pancake Breakfast, Bake and Craft Sale. Activities begin at 9 a.m.

The Longville Area Women of Today's annual Cookie Walk will begin and 10 a.m., ending at 1 p.m. Due to the closing of the Longville School, the Cookie Walk has been moved to St. Edwards Catholic Church.

From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., Studio 5 on Main will celebrate the season with an open house.

Rounding off the busy day in Longville, the Longville Area Community Foundation's 9th Annual Holiday Dinner and Fundraiser is at Patrick's Fine Dining. Social hour starts at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Following dinner there is entertainment, a silent auction, and a photos sponsored by the Longville Area Women of Today. Tickets are available at Studio 5 on Main.

Tabaka's Super Valu will host their open house on Tuesday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

On Thursday, Dec. 16, Ron's Hardware invites everyone to stop by for some holiday treats during their open house, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Bill Hansen Realty's open house will also be Thursday, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 17, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., Ace Longville Builders Supply is having their annual open house.

Join Lori's Luvs, Gallery of New Creations and Antiques Too, and the Longville Lakes Arts Alliance for a combined open house 4 to 7 p.m., at Gallery of New Creations on Main Street.

In the spirit of the holiday season, let your gift giving begin at home. Give your hometown buisness-people a chance to provide you with the items you need to complete your shopping list. These merchants chose to do business in your community to provide you with quality products and service. They employee your family, friends and neighbors. Let them give you the special attention to detail that will make your holiday shopping experience a pleasure. It pays to shop locally.
