Lakeland Area 'Fall Has It All' events planned Sept. 17 - Oct. 3


The Lakeland Area has long been a summer destination, but the area will be drawing more attention to what the area has to offer as summer turns to fall. The communities of Akeley, Hackensack, Longville and Walker will be holding their annual joint celebration, Fall Has It All, Sept. 16 through Oct. 3. Fall Has It All buttons are available at businesses and merchants in the four communities. With the purchase of a Fall Has It All button, the wearer will be entitled to specials and discounts at participating merchants. List of special offers for Fall Has It All buttons is available upon button purchase.

Fall Has It All activities include a Wine and Cheese Gathering and Art Show, 4-7 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Gallery of New Creations & Antiques too, in Longville.

Friday, Sept. 17 and Saturday, Sept. 18 there is a Harvest Gathering Schoolhouse at Northern Lights Event Center, near Walker. Also Friday and Saturday, Akeley will celebrate Hay Days.

Friday, Sept. 17, an Oktoberfest/Fall Has It All Kick-off party will be held at the Anchorage Inn, on Lake Inguadona, 3 miels east of Longville. The Kick-off party will include an all-you-can-eat outdoor barbecue on the patio, 6-9 p.m. Cost for the barbecue is $9.95 with a Fall Has It All button, $12.95 without. Live music provided by The Buzzardz will be inside 9 p.m. until midnight.

The 28th Annual Walker North Country Marathon, 1/2 Marathon, 2 Person Marathon Relay, and 10K races will get underway on Saturday, September 18, 2010, in Walker. North Country Marathon is heralded as "A celebration of the life and land that is Northern Minnesota!"

You'll need to change your running shoes into comfortable shopping shoes and trade them in later on for dancing shoes Saturday, for Longville's Annual Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest activities include: Turtle Town Cruisers car show, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., west of Longville Bait. John Justad from Lake Country Air will be providing seaplane rides at the Longville City Dock. There is a $50 fee, based on five passengers per flight.

Across the street on the grounds of the Longville Historical Building, enjoy outdoor art and music, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will include live music performed by Tim and Jan Marr, accordion polka music from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and open air arts and crafts show, and the annual Longville Food Shelf Scarecrow sale.

Main Street events beginning at 11 a.m., include a wine and cheese tasting at the Docksider. For the sweet tooth, the Longville Chamber of Commerce's Mary Etta's Pie Sale, will offer pie by the slice or whole pie. Discounts apply with a Fall Has It All button.

Test your aiming skills at the Bean Bag Tournament, at the Docksider parking lot, sponsored by VFW Post 772. Tournament begins at 11 a.m. and will be completed by 2 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]A chainsaw carving demonstration will be held in the parking lot at Common Grounds at 11:30 a.m. The carving will be raffled off during the Oktoberfest Dance at the Fire Hall. German sauerkraut and brats, German and domestic beer, and German desserts will be served starting at 5 p.m. Live music by Dale Dahmen & the Beats will be from 6 to 11 p.m., with Oktoberfest games and contests held during band breaks. Cover charge is $5 at the door. Oktoberfest is a fundraising event for the Longville Firefighters and Longville Chamber of Commerce activities.

Sunday, were your Fall Has It All button to Frosty's on Main Street, in Longville, and you will receive a free root beer float. Floats will be served from noon to 3 p.m.

For the art enthusiasts, art exhibits featuring the work of local artists will be held Friday, Sept. 17 through Sunday, Oct. 3 at several Longville locations. First National Bank of Walker - Longville Office will display works by Norma Jansen; Pat Ritchie's pieces will be on display at Studio 5 on Main; North Pines Interiors will show the artistic work of Tom Kutschied; Gallry of New Creations & Antiques too will show selections by artists Julia Jones and Carol Vind. At Common Grounds Dar Brooks art will be displayed.

Sunday there is an Art Show at Northern Lights Event Center.

The Artists Mall in Walker will host an Art Show on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Art, skill and craftsmanship will be in high demand in Hackensack Sept. 23-25, during two separate chainsaw carving competitions.

South of Hackensack, at Artis Tree Fields, at Co. Rd. 45 and State Hwy. 371, world class chainsaw artists will compete in the World Chainsaw Championship. Carving begins on Thursday, Sept. 23 through Sunday, Sept. 26. Faith in Action (FIA) has been named benefactor of the World Chainsaw Championship. Artis Tree In Motion is making a commitment in partnering with FIA to provide the non-profit organization with this annual funding opportunity.

Downtown Hackensack will be the site of the 6th Annual National Chainsaw Sculpting Invitational, riday, Sept. 24 through Sunday, Sept. 26. The Invitational will feature wood chainsaw sculpting by the the Loghoggers, as well as new competitions including rock carving, pioneer rail splitting and pioneer games for everyone to compete in.

An Alzheimer's Walk to Remer will be held in Walker on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The Hackensack First Responders Spaghetti Dinner will be held Sept. 25, at the Hackensack Fire Hall.

Saturday, Sept. 25, and Sunday, Sept. 26 Northern Lights Event Center, will host Dinner and Dance with the Glenn Miller Band.

A traveling car show, the Fall Has It All Car Color Tour will hit the road between the communities three Saturdays in a row, Sept. 18, 25 and Oct. 2. The show is open to all collector vehicles, and includes a "Shine and Show" and guided cruise through Walker, Akeley, Hackensack and Longville. Cars can join the cruise in any of the four towns. Starting time vary from town to town and are subject to change. Trophies will be awarded each of the three days, and will be presented at the end of the tour at Northern Lights Event Center. Participants and spectators with a fall has it all button are entitled to one vote.

The Walker Rotary Club will host their annual Rotary Extravaganza on Friday, October 1, at the Chase on the Lake in Walker.
