Kitchigami Regional Library sponsoring Legacy field trip to see King Tut exhibit

Kitchigami Regional Library is sponsoring Legacy field trips to the King Tut exhibition at the Science Museum in St. Paul during the second half of March. A family bus will be departing from the Longville Library on Saturday, March 26th at 6:30 am. Children 10 years and older are welcome on family buses and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The field trips are free for Kitchigami Library patrons, and include admission to the Science Museum, the King Tut exhibit, Mummies Omnitheater film, audio tour, and round trip motor coach transportation. There are a limited number of tickets and registration is required at your local Kitchigami Library.

The Kitchigami Regional Library Legacy field trip will give the group a chance to explore Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaoh, an exhibition that brings to life the discovery of King Tut's tomb by Howard Carter in 1922, and 2,000 years of ancient Egyptian history. The King Tut exhibition opened at the Science Museum during February. At 16,000 square feet, King Tut is the largest exhibition the Science Museum has ever hosted.[[In-content Ad]]

The King Tut exhibition features more 100 authentic treasures from the tomb of the celebrated pharaoh, including the golden sandals found on Tut's feet. The exhibition marks the very first time that King Tut's treasures have visited Minnesota, providing visitors with the rare chance to see the boy King's famed artifacts. The National Geographic Society, Arts and Exhibitions International, and AEG Exhibitions organized the exhibition with cooperation from the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities. Many of the artifacts have never visited the United States prior to this exhibition. St. Paul will be the only place in the U.S. where visitors can experience this collection of treasures from the young King's tomb.

Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs, a giant screen film in the Omnitheater, delves deeper into the mysteries and science of mummification, and serves as the perfect introduction to the exhibition experience. Following the viewing of Mummies, visitors will be ushered into the King Tut exhibition, a series of galleries mimicking the tomb as Carter found it. The exhibition gives insight into pharaonic Egypt and Tut's short and privileged life. Included in the exhibit are the first 3D CT scans of the great king's mummy, which were obtained as part of a landmark Egyptian research and conservation project.

Visit your local Kitchigami Library for the complete tour schedule, or the Kitchigami website, www.krls.org, Legacy events.

You are encouraged to bring a bag lunch or snack for the field trip.

Kitchigami Legacy field trips to the King Tut Exhibition are made possible with funding from the State of Minnesota Legacy Amendment and the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
