Informational meeting set to research need for public library in Remer

REMER - Aubrey Watson, the AmeriCorps VISTA member serving at the Northland Family Center, has been researching the possibility and benefits of a public library in the town of Remer. Two presentations have been made to the Remer Chamber of Commerce and there was interest shown among the members present.

This project is in its infancy, but there has been research done regarding the benefits to the community and contact has been made with non-profits such as the Rural Library Project, which provides technical support to small towns, like Remer, that wish to start a library.

Watson reports that her research highlights the many benefits a library would provide to all community members. These include increased foot traffic in town, a location for community events, a source for public information and government forms, and has even been reported to attract new businesses and increase local property values.

There will be an informational meeting to see if there is enough interest from the community to move forward with the project. Anyone who is interested is more than welcome. The meeting will take place at the Remer Depot on May 12th at 4 pm.
