General Election results: Governor and Cass County Sheriff races tight
Unofficial Cass County election results include:
In the Cass County Sheriff race, 47 votes separate Tom Burch and Wayne Tennis. Burch received 6,203 votes to Tennis' 6,156.
Cass County Commissioner District 1: Neal Gaalswyk received 1,677 votes, to Ken Laporte's 1,207.
Cass County Commissioner District 2: Robert Kangas topped Edward Nelson, 1,408 to 751.
Cass County Commissioner District 4: Jim Dowson netted 1,540 votes; Bob Moore earned 944 votes.
Cass County Recorder Kathryn "Katie" Norby ran unopposed, gaining 9,825 votes.[[In-content Ad]]
Christopher Strandlie was the lone Cass County Attorney candidate. He netted 9,774 votes.
Soil and Water Conservation District 1 Supervisor Tom W. Kuschel ,received 9,951 votes; District 5, Willard Pehling received 9,841.
Unofficial results for area city races are:
City of Backus, Mayor results: Toni Thomas, 39; Dean Engen, 27; Chuck DuFour, 23; Butch Freeman, 12; and Philip Casperson, 8.
Backus City Council (2 seats): Rae Borst, came out on top with 72 votes; followed by Jim Thomas, with 49; Randy Zwart, 37; and Cloie F. Smith, 36.
City of Boy River Mayor, Council Member and Treasurer ran unopposed. Mark Fogle, received 6 votes for Mayor; Joe Morris, 5 votes for Council Member; and Kelly Fogle, 6 votes for Treasurer.
City of Federal Dam: James Hinderscheid receive 18 votes for mayor; there were 11 write-in votes.
Federal Dam City Council: Darcy Tonga received 23 votes; 11 write-in votes were also cast.
In the Hackensack City Council race, where two seats were on the ballot, Janice Pfarr received 121 votes, Gus Kaubisch had 102.
Longville Mayor Floyd "Jocko" Kline ran unopposed, gaining 78 votes.
Longville City Council had two seats to fill, Harold Kammueller tallies 70 votes; Robert Kohanek, 65; and Robert Helling received 27.
In Pine River, Jim Sabas held on to the mayor position, with 128 votes; narrowly defeating Elmay P. Tulenchik with 121 votes.
Pine River City Council's two seats will be filled by Patty Melby, 155 votes; and Tony Desanto, 139.
Mark Gravelle was the lone candidate for the open Remer City Council seat, and received 104 votes.
Walker's incumbent Mayor, Bradley J. Walhof was defeated by Brian N. Johnson. Johnson neteed 267 votes compared to Walhof's 215.
Only 16 votes separated three candidates running for two vacancies on the Walker City Council. Annie McMurrin brought in 273 votes; Char Moore, received 166, edging out Pat Finnery with 257.

Unofficial State of Minnesota election results include:
Minnesotans, who waited some eight months for the Al Franken and Norm Coleman race to be decided, may have another long wait before learning who Minnesota's next governor is. Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party's Mark Dayton and his running mate, Yvonne Prettner Solon, received 919228 or 43.63 percent of the statewide votes. Republican Tom Emmer and his running mate Annette T. Meeks ended up with 910473 votes, or43.21 percent. Independence Party candidates, Tom Horner with running mate James A. Mulder received 251490 votes, 11.94 percent. Grassroots Party candidate, Chris Wright with running mate Edwin H. Engelmann, netted, 7,515 votes, 0.36 percent. The Green Party candidate, Farheen Hakeem and Dan Dittmann came in with 6,188 votes, 0.29 percent. Ecology Democracy Party's Ken Pentel with Erin Wallace received 6180, or 0.29 percent of the vote.And Representing the Resource Party, Linda S. Eno with Howard B. Hanson, earned 4,092 or 0. 19ercent of the statewide vote.
In the District U.S. Congressional race, Incumbent James Oberstar (Dem.) lost to Chip Cravaack (Rep.). Cravaack received 133,486 votes to Oberstar's 129,084. Timothy Olson (Ind.) finished the race with 11,876 votes.
In the State Senate District 4 race,
John Carlson (Rep.), defeated Incumbent Mary Olson (Dem.), 18,956 to 15,752.
Sate Representative District 4A voters chose John Persell (Dem.) with 7,744 compared to Richard Lehmann (Rep.), with 6,808 votes.
In the Distrcit 4B State Representive race, Larry Howes (Rep.) earned 11,722 votes, compared to Meg Bye (Dem.) with 8,098.
