Fire restrictions lifted in Chippewa National Forest

Due to recent rainfall and greening conditions, the Chippewa National Forest has removed all restrictions on campfires on national forest lands. Previously, due to extreme fire danger across all of northern Minnesota, the Forest Service had prohibited campfires, charcoal and wood-burning campstoves within the Chippewa National Forest.

Although fire danger has decreased, the majority of recent wildfires in northern Minnesota have been human-caused.

"Campfires in fire rings should still be monitored closely," stated Henry Goehle, of the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center in Grand Rapids. "Drought conditions continue to persist in some parts of northern Minnesota."

For more information on burning restrictions, contact the Chippewa National Forest at 218-335-8600 or the Minnesota DNR at 218-755-3955.[[In-content Ad]]
