Dine and Discover program set for June 17 in Walker
Today, 30 million households are providing care for an adult over the age of 50 - and that number is expected to double over the next 25 years. For many Americans, life at 40, 50 or even 60 years old will include caring for an aging parent or relative. It doesn't matter who starts the conversation. What matters is that every family has the opportunity to share in the journey.
Featured speaker, Iva Thielges, Lutheran Social Services Respite Program Coordinator, will discuss how to initiate that talk about those issues we try to avoid. With humor and grace, she will share specific situations and
practical tips on caregiving. Thielges has worked in the health care field for the past 25 years. As the Services Coordinator for St. Joseph's Hospice and as the Executive Director of the Living at Home Program in Park Rapids, she encountered families who had not had the important conversations about sensitive topics. She recognizes that sooner is better for these conversations to occur, but it is never too late to start. Now in her role as Lutheran Social Service Respite Coordinator for Cass County, Thielges has the privilege of meeting with families as they embark on their caregiving journeys. Following the Dine & Discover presentation, she will be available to answer questions.
Dine and Discover is a free, ongoing resource and information program held the third Thursday of each month in Walker, sponsored by Faith in Action for Cass County and the Senior Leech Lakers. For more information about Dine
