County participates in prescription drug collection

WALKER -Sheriff Tom Burch reports that Cass County participated in a DEA sponsored Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Event on Saturday, April 30, 2011. Cass County had three sites where residents could drop off their prescription drugs - Cass Lake City Hall, Cass Co Sheriff's Office in Walker and the Lake Shore City Hall.

There were a total of over 45 pounds prescriptions drugs that were collected at these three sites. Cass County, along with the DEA, appreciated the public's initiative in taking advantage of this valuable opportunity to safely dispose of unused, unneeded or expired prescription drugs. Preventing these readily available and potentially deadly drugs from being diverted and misused is something each and every one of us can do to help reduce the epidemic of prescription drug abuse that is harming so many Americans.[[In-content Ad]]

Cass County residents are encouraged to watch for further details regarding the Take It To The Box program. There are plans for a 24/7 drop box available in the lobby of the Cass County Sheriff's Office by this summer. Future plans include other drop box sites available on a limited basis serving other areas of the county.

The Cass County Take It To The Box program is a collaborative effort between the Cass County Sheriff's Office, Environmental Services and Public Health, along with TRIAD and the Working Together Coalition.
