Chief Deputy Tom Burch wins Sheriff's office by 47 votes


The Cass County Canvassing Board met at 10 a.m. Monday declaring the official results of the state general election held November 2nd.

Final vote totals in the Cass County Sheriff's race as certified show Chief Deputy Sheriff Tom Burch as the winner by a 47 vote margin with 6,203 votes over Walker Police Chief Wayne Tennis with 6,156 votes and 26 write in votes for others.

The race falls within the half of one percent margin under state law to be eligible for a recount at no cost to the losing candidate. Mr. Tennis submitted a written request for the recount as required later Monday after the canvass of the election.

Auditor-Treasurer Sharon Anderson has notified the candidates that the recount will be conducted on Wednesday, November 10th beginning at 11:00 a.m. in Commissioners Board Room, Cass County Courthouse, Walker, Minnesota.

The recount will follow the required post election review of voting equipment accuracy scheduled at 10 a.m. Both events are open to the public.
