'Caring through the Holidays' workshop planned

WALKER - The holidays are a time when family and friends come together and share memories, laughs and good cheer. But for families living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, the holidays can be a difficult time. Esther Gieschen, Northern Regional Center Director for the Alzheimer's Association Minnesota-North Dakota chapter, will present "Caring through the Holidays," a free workshop to help families navigate the season, on Tuesday, Nov. 23 from 9-10:30 a.m. at May Creek Senior Living Campus in Walker.

Care giving responsibilities layered on top of keeping up with holiday traditions can take its toll on Alzheimer's families, especially the caregiver. The person with Alzheimer's may also feel a sense of loss during the holidays. With some planning and adjusted expectations, celebrations can be filled with joy and magical moments to cherish forever.[[In-content Ad]]

"Caring through the Holidays" is designed for those with dementia, care givers, families and friends, care professionals and anyone in the community who wants to learn how to help make this time of the year easier and less stressful for those impacted by dementia. A time for questions and answers will be available following the one-hour presentation.

The workshop will be held in the May Creek Lodge Community Room, with refreshments available. There is no charge for this workshop. Walk-in attendance is welcome, with advance registration suggested to help with space planning. May Creek Senior Living Campus is located at 303 10th Street South in Walker (2 blocks south of Hwy. 371 at the Jimmy's Restaurant corner.)
