Bright Red Bookshelves coming soon to the area
of the Northland Area Family Service Center
The Northland Area Family Service Center is partnering with the 7th Grade Service Learning class at Northland High School under the leadership of Bev Reilein to bring the Bright Red Bookshelf project to our community!
The students will be building, painting, and helping to stock 6 bookshelves that will be placed in Remer, Longville, Outing, Federal Dam, Sugar Point, and Boy River. The bookshelves will be placed in public locations, such as clinics, grocery stores, and community buildings to make the books as accessible as possible. We are still looking for locations, so if you have a space you would like to volunteer please call Aubrey at the Family Center (218)363-3348. The shelves will act as an informal lending library. The Bright Red Bookshelf program is a part of Project READ, a literacy program with Itasca Area Schools.[[In-content Ad]]The students will be holding a book drive from Oct 5th to the 15th. Books can be dropped off at Family Center in Longville or at the Second Chance thrift store in Remer. The books should be age appropriate for children birth to 5 years. Our bookshelves will be introduced at Family Fun Night on October 14th.
If you have any children's books that your kids have outgrown and no longer read, we encourage you to donate them! Being read to is an important part of a child's education and 2/3 of low income families have no children's books! Help us get books into every household in our community!
