Another Big Day at the Turtle Races. 416 racers !! The line got so big so fast ...pretty soon it was way down past the Post Office. Must be 1200 people. That many people could strike fear into the hearts of some...but not Longville volunteers. They have nerves of steel. Everyone buckled down and created another memorable day for all the visitors to Longville.
From the moment of entry..that is getting to the registration booth, you will be greeted by Sande and Jeanne with a big smile and Stan too...to get your buttons and your racing numbers. Then Dusty and Mary will help you get your game tickets and souvenirs. Then, on to the games.
This Wednesday we had Elsie and Deb each running a Fishing for Fun game...one of our most popular games. Rosalie was in charge of Turtle Roll, Kim was on the Bola Toss...her favorite game...Patty ran Turtles on the Fence where you try to hit the cutouts with a bean bag to knock them down and Jan ran the Bag the Turtle....a turtle variation on the corn hole theme. Dennis was where he always is at the Wiffle Ball Game with his crazy hat on!! This all resembles a little slice of a State Fair.
Next is the Prize Table. WOW there are so many prizes the kids eyes glaze over at the sight of all that good stuff. There to assist in their selections are Judy, Mary and Lisa. I think they have as much fun running that table as the kids do picking out their prizes!! These folks make up the “front “ of the operation.
In the next few weeks we will explore the mechanics of the operation and introduce you to Paul. Then, onto the meat and potato side of it all...the turtle wranglers, lead by Willy the Turtle manager, and Michaela, Taylor, Alex and Addison. And, not to forget our judges, Payton and Emery, announcer John, technical directors Charlee and Sandy. That’s it for now.
Let us also say how sorry we all are that we will not be able to offer Turtle Races for the next 2 weeks because of a detour coming right through Longville’s main street. Cannot close off the street. We are sad...but what can you do? Except come see us when it’s done. Thank you for your support.
