100 Years Ago

July 28, 1921

  Thirty-two students from various parts of the county took the examination for Common School diplomas at the courthouse in Walker.

   Hackensack has arranged for a market day next Saturday. The community is invited to bring articles that will be sold at auction.

   Harvest is the order of the day with Pine Lake farmers. The oats crop is very good.

 75 Years Ago

July 19, 1946

   Dick Hicks, who has been employed in California the past several years, arrived in Remer where he intends to stay.

   Glen Campbell of Federal Dam moved his family to Sugar Point this week.

   George Pence lived in Boy River since 1915. He married Kate Sinclair. He died July 12 and is survived by a son, Paul, and a daughter Enid Mix.

50 Years Ago

July 22, 1971

  The Boy River Fire Tower was built by the CCCs in1935-36. It will be dismantled and erected at another location by the US Forest Service.

  Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Eldred have sold their resort, “Green Acres” on Graves Lake.

   Longville Fire Department completed the second course in Firemanship training. Those attending are Bill Condon, Bill Manders, Keith Woodford, Jerry Lynch, Marv Kellogg, Curt Madsen, Ted Carpenter, Fritz Felton, Claude Johnson, and Bob Cole.

July 16, 1996

   All friends are invited to help us honor Armand Miller on his 75th birthday at an open house held at Wayne and Ruth Miller’s home, one mile east of Remer on Hwy. 200.

   Stewart and Suzanne Wilson are the new owners of Loons Unlimited, located on Hwy 371 at Hackensack.

   Kristann Marie Bliss and David Warren Yochum invite you to an Open House to celebrate their marriage. The location is the Bill and Dottie Bliss residence.
