  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society. 

100 Years Ago

July 21, 1921

   Mr. Lethenberg, architect for the Hackensack school, met in Walker with County Superintendent R.H. Ross this week.

   Mrs. Spooner entertained the Willing Workers of Longville Thursday at her home in Inguadona.

   The Tom Brown home in Hiram was completely destroyed by fire Monday, and they are making their home in the Hiram school.

 75 Years Ago

July 12, 1946

   Halvor Rogberstad of Wabedo Lake has a family reunion with relatives from Canada after 45 years of separation. It was his 30th wedding anniversary.

   Harvey and Hilbert Countryman worked on the phone line on the Tobique side again this week. Dave Resler helped on the line also.

   Mrs. Elsie Toffle and Howard were at Louie Campbell’s Friday and Howard helped to put up hay.

50 Years Ago

July 15, 1971

   The 26th Amendment, giving eighteen-year-olds the right to vote in all elections, was ratified on July 1, 1971.

   Rev. Tufteland was the first minister of the Salem Lutheran Church at Inguadona. He came from Dakota to attend John Vangen’s funeral.

   Louie Jordahl, who is guiding for Neururer’s, caught a 32 pound northern on Monday. 

25 Years Ago

July 10, 1996

   Sherman A. Yochum Post 772 Commander Dennis Marine was awarded a White Hat representing an All State Team of 35 commanders chosen from 312 state posts.

   Colin Gunnerson taught in District #118 for 36 years and was honored with an Open House Retirement Party held at the high school.

   Harry Clifford Haggard died July 2, 1996. He was born October 12, 1926 in Walker. He attended school in Laporte. A woods worker and farmer and an employee with Rajala Mill in Deer River, he lived in Remer and is buried there.
