Minnesota author releases new novel inspired by real-life Vietnam POW story

Area author Jill Hannah Anderson announces the release of her newest novel, After We Break, available March 17, 2026, through major book retailers.

The novel follows Eden Everson, a single mother who reaches a breaking point in her high-pressure corporate career when the stress begins affecting both her health and her relationship with her son, Ryan. Hoping to regain balance in her life, Eden takes time away from work to regroup and reconsider her future.

While sorting through boxes from her childhood, Eden discovers a Vietnam-era POW bracelet her mother wore decades earlier. Curious about the soldier whose name appears on the bracelet, she searches online and is surprised to learn the former prisoner of war, David, is alive and living only a couple of hours away. When Eden travels to the small Minnesota town of Crimson Creek to return the bracelet, she finds herself unexpectedly drawn to the community and the simpler life it represents.

As Eden reconnects with parts of herself she had long set aside, she must face difficult choices about her career, her family, and the life she truly wants. The story explores themes of personal reinvention, sacrifice, and the courage required to pursue a more meaningful life.

The inspiration for the novel came from a personal family connection. Anderson discovered a Vietnam POW bracelet her mother had worn decades earlier and later learned the soldier was still alive at age 90 and living nearby. After meeting him several times and receiving permission to share parts of his story, Anderson incorporated the idea into her fictional narrative.

Anderson is known for writing stories about women at pivotal turning points in their lives. She lives on a lake in Northern Minnesota with her husband and is the author of several novels including Closer to Home, A Life Unraveled, Crazy Little Town Called Love, and The To Hell and Back Club. Her stories are set in fictional Minnesota towns and often highlight resilience, relationships, and community.

After We Break will be available through Ingram and major book retailers beginning March 17, 2026. The novel is 340 pages with a retail price of $15.99. An e-book version will also be available for $9.99.
