100 Years Ago

March 25, 1926

   Hackensack will have a reliable banking house after May 3 as the new bank will open under the ownership of Ed I.P. Staede, Walker and A.O. Miller of Backus. During the past year Hackensack has been without a bank owing to the closing of the Hackensack State bank.

   Ole Brevik of Kego has installed a new engine for his sawmill and will soon have everything in readiness for spring sawing.

   Those who have been cutting and hauling ice in Pine Lake township: Lawrence Emery, Jack Case, Avery Emery, George Case, John Born and Ray Parks.

 75 Years Ago

March 21, 1951

   Boy River men Warren and Harold Atherton bought Olaf Anderson’s car on Friday.

   Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Forbes of Minneapolis were Easter dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. K.S. Forbes.

   Olaf Erickson returned home to Boy River after having taken his 32nd degree in masonry.

   A white lie often takes in lots of territory considering the way the truth is sometimes stretched to cover it.

50 Years Ago

March 18, 1976

   The 1976 blizzard arrived here on Thursday evening with between 7 and 8 inches of snowfall into Friday morning. Winds gusts measured from 20 to 30 mph. Schools were closed and roads were blocked. Friday afternoon temps were 28 degrees.

   Mr. and Mrs. Walter Norman and Melvin were guests of Mrs. Will Shepard in Blind Lake. Melvin is home for a few days from Great Lakes Naval Station.

   Neil Tobiason left his parents’ home at Inguadona township on Sunday to resume his studies at St. Cloud College.

 25 Years Ago

March 20, 2001 

   Beverly Campbell died March 12th. Her parents were William and Lydie (Mazan) Kopesky. She married Ellmer “Bud” Campbell on July 9, 1977. Together they owned the Chippewa Lodge resort on Leech Lake.

   St. Cloud State University has announced that Sarah Elizabeth Welk of Remer has been placed on the fall semester Dean’s List.
