Cheesemaking 101 class is set for Saturday, March 28 1-5 p.m. at Balsam Moon Preserve ( BMP), located 10 miles west and south of Pine River. Julia Carter of Happy Cow Farm in Park Rapids will present this class. She has been making cheese for about 10 years and will share her skills and knowledge about cheesemaking. She’ll work with participants to make cow-feta cheese which everyone will take some home. The milk comes from her A2/A2 Jersey milk cows which produce a milk protein that is known to be more easily digestable for most people. Julia will also review different cheeses, soft and hard, and the challenges each process holds. Taste treats on a charcuterie board will be shared with a variety of cheeses.
Participants may sign up for any number of sessions that is of interest. Julia invites your questions about raw milk, cheese, farm life or more. There is a fee for the class, scholarships available.
