Sustainable Living in Uncertain Times sessions offered at Balsam Moon Preserve
“Sustainable Living in Uncertain Times” guided by Doug Weiss is a four part in-person series offered Saturdays, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. beginning February 21 and ending March 14 at Balsam Moon Preserve located 10 miles west and south of Pine River. Participants may sign up for any number of sessions that are of interest. A sliding fee scale allows for affordability. An overall understanding of present realities will be presented along with ways you can shift to live more simply. You’ll explore foundational issues as well as applications including sustainable living at home, conservation of energy, food security and sustainable community structures.
Session 1: Feb. 21: Introduction and General Responses which will include: simple living, sustainable living, carrying capacity, energy use, basic living skills.
Session 2: Feb. 28: Personal Responses looking at reducing consumption, energy blindness, net energy, alternative building practices, food sovereignty, water conservation, clothing, transportation
Session 3: March 7: will cover designing Sustainable Communities including: systems thinking, resilience, thresholds, transformation.
Session 4: March 14 takes a look at Transition to Sustainable Communities including topics: food sovereignty, energy self-sufficiency, infrastructure, clothing,
BMP is a non-profit organization sharing an alternative, sustainable, spiritual place of peace, honoring the earth and all living things. They offer trails, demonstrations of solar uses and alternative building methods, gardens, a labyrinth, a children’s story walk along one trail, cabin rentals, pizza nights in the summer and opportunities to gather in community sharing our common humanity.
