We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Terry M. Gross, age 67, of Remer MN. He passed away at the home he built for his family on Thunder Lake. He battled pancreatic cancer for 15 months and lost his fight the beautiful morning of Thursday, October 30th. There was a spectacular sunrise, and his family was by his side.
He is survived by his mother Darlene Gross, his brother Michael (Marion) Gross, his wife of 36 years Toni Gross, his 4 children TJ, Nakina (Zach), Keyana and Gary, his 4 grandchildren Kylie, Zaylor, Tavion and Nori. And many more family and friends.
Terry met his wife in 1981 and married her June 24th,1989. From there they raised a family and he was a remarkable family man; he planned many trips for his kids growing up. Fishing trips to Reed Lake, Manitoba. ATV trips in the mountains of North and South Dakota and a trip of the Lolo Trail in the Bitterroot Mountains, connecting Montana and Idaho and famously traversed by Lewis and Clark. Terry’s well-thought-out trips provide an abundance of memories that will be cherished and one day be experienced again by his grandkids.
He loved his family, and his grandkids brought him great joy. Terry was there to witness the birth of his first grandson and since has been to every birthday. Zaylor received a dirt bike for his 5th birthday and of course they spent as many good days as possible out on the trails riding together. Terry loved riding his Honda motorcycle around. I’m sure many saw him out and about on it. Terry also loved hosting parties and was sure to invite more than enough people to the grandkids’ birthday parties. Tavion’s and Nori’s birthday parties will continue to be celebrated in the same manner Papa started.
Terry was a big part of the local school district back when his kids were enrolled. He was on the ISD #118 school board for 20+ years and enjoyed all those years. Terry played a tremendous role in the Thunder Lake community. He was everyone’s go to man and advocate for new people who moved to the area. He always offered a helping hand or knew who could help with whatever the situation was. Terry put in countless volunteer hours raising money and recreating an incredible sportsman club facility that includes a new and improved building for gatherings, a trap shooting range, a gun range, an archery range and pickle ball courts. This facility is sure to hold many more gatherings and parties for years to come. He was so proud to recreate that club that originated in the 1970’s.
Terry was a friend to many in the area, as he was often a bar fly at his favorite local bars. Deer Haven has been a big part of his life. His parents lived there and owned it in the 70’s and 80’s and he worked there as a bartender. It’s where he met Toni and many other friends. Over the years Deer Haven has always been a big part of his heart, the place he chose to have his final party. On October 25, 2025, hundreds of friends gathered in honor of Terry’s remarkable life and celebrated knowing he was off to a greater place. The Pickled Loon Saloon was another local favorite where he met even more wonderful friends. He was never afraid to talk to new people, so many people know “Gross”. His family is grateful for all the stories shared of Terry and ask that you continue to reach out and share the stories.
Terry’s wishes were to not have a funeral. His family honored him with a party he was supposed to attend in October and will continue to honor him with a memorial hosted in the summer months, details to be determined. Terry is greatly missed and his family thanks everyone for continued support as they are adjusting to life without him.
