  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

Jan. 21, 1926

   Robert Manders held the lucky number on the accordion which was raffled at Pete Skogland’s last week in Longville. It is as large as Bob, almost, but he’ll grow.

   Congressman Knutson introduced a bill to set aside 276 acres at Onigum for Indian village purposes.

   The tie loaders at Federal Dam finished loading out 6,000 ties for F. A. Simpson. 

 75 Years Ago

Jan. 14, 1950

   A mysterious gunman relieved the co-proprietor of a Federal Dam general store of 13 ½ gallons of gasoline at about 11 p.m. Friday night. He disappeared as quietly from the town as he had entered it.

   James Godfrey, Remer, and C.B. Austin, Longville have been appointed deputies under Cass County Sheriff Buck Simpson.

   Wedding bells rang at Blind Lake township for Vernon Erickson and Lee Jean Peterson last week.

50 Years Ago

Jan. 15, 1976

   Andrew Pearson of Wabedo Lake has passed away. He was a well driller and drilled several wells around Blind lake.

   Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. William Winger whose son was the first baby to be born at Itasca Memorial hospital in the New Year.

   Mrs. Bob Horton from Livermore, Ca. spent a few days with her parents at Inguadona township.

 25 Years Ago

Jan. 16, 2001 

   Outing’s Kevin Malikoski and his partner Paula Talbot raise nearly 50 Alaskan Huskies for sled dog race competition. He plans to race in the 350-mile Grand Portage race and the Mid-Minnesota 150. 

   The Longville Lions Club member Joan Kickhafer presented a check for $600 to the Northland Area Family Center for Toys for Tots and the Radiothon to End Child Abuse.

   Howard Christian Bluhm was born to Karl and Wilhelmina Bluhm, on Upper Trelipe Lake. He graduated from Remer High School in 1932. In 1939 he married Hattie Woodley of Longville. They moved to Tacoma, WA in 1944 where he worked for St. Regis Lumber Co. for 32 years. He died December 27th at age 86.
