  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

Jan. 14, 1926

   The Ernest Nyvall home in Longville was consumed by fire last Thursday afternoon, and it is believed to have originated under the kitchen range.

   Miss Clark of Inguadona township returned to her school at Outing on Sunday afternoon.

   The Griffith Dray Line is delivering a carload of coal to Onigum this week.

   Herman Person built a chimney for E.H. Atwood last Monday in Kego township. 

75 Years Ago

Jan. 7, 1950

   Best wishes are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brown who were recently married. Janet is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lilyquist of Longville and Don is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Brown of Remer.

   A farewell party in honor of Jim Duffey and Jerry Heuring was given at Duffey’s Tavern at Boy River on Sunday evening. They left for their physical examinations for the Air Corps on Monday. 

   Tub Godfrey and Donnie of Boy Lake hauled a load of slabs to Ralph Preble of Deer River.

75 Years Ago

Jan. 5, 1951

   Della Mae Forbord is home on Christmas vacation at Boy Lake. She plans on going back to the cities January 2, where she is employed.

   Young people’s social was held at the Dauber home at Blind Lake township on Wednesday evening. The young folks also enjoyed a sleigh ride.

   Mr. and Mrs. Frank DeVorak and Mr. and Mrs. Ed McKeig of Federal Dam attended the Lena Haskins dance at LaPorte Saturday night.

50 Years Ago

Jan. 8, 1976

   Mr. and Mrs. Dick Tabaka moved to Perham on Friday where they will take over the Coast to Coast store.

   On Sunday evening, December 21, a large group from the Allliance Church at Remer sang Christmas carols about town.

 25 Years Ago

Jan. 9, 2001 

   Violet Rose Hausken, age 94, died December 19th. She was born January 17, 1906, to Richard and Lillian Whitman. She married George Hausken and they moved to Longville in 1929. She is survived by daughters Alice Berge and Leona Mix and sons: Ray, Marvin and David.

   The Central Minnesota Cross Country circuit got underway New Year’s Day on Leech Lake at Whipholt. Rett Johnson of Remer placed with a time of 34:28 in the 500 Pro Class.

   Good to remember that laughter comes naturally while hate must be taught.
