Looking Back - Do you remember when...



  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

Feb. 18, 1926

   Charles Sanford and son of Trelipe township autoed to the Range with a load of potatoes.

   A party was given at the home of Ray Parks Friday evening at Pine Lake township which was well attended. Mr. and Mrs. Larson were presented with a nice box of groceries as Mr. Larson met with a painful accident and is still unable to work.

   Rex and Helen Cota, Dolly Wheeler, and Wayne McVay attended the dance in Thunder Lake township Saturday night.

 75 Years Ago

Feb. 16, 1950

   Little Marsha Sjoblum of Minneapolis is visiting her grandparents, the Hendricksons and the Sjoblums, at Remer.

   The Longville Boy Scouts had a toboggan party near Glenmar Lodge last Saturday night with 19 members attending.

   Shorty Iverson returned to Boy River after spending two weeks in Sioux Falls, S.D.

   A Cass County Feller named Dahl, once said of a game of baseball: “Not a score did we get, for the field was too wet, with the flow of the umpire’s gall”.

50 Years Ago

Feb. 12, 1976

   The Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post #772 met at the new VFW hall on February 3 with President Mary Slagle calling the meeting to order.

   Mrs. John Russell returned to Minneapolis and then home to Remer after spending two weeks with daughter, Linda, who lives in Eugene, Oregon. 

   Bob Helling of Manley, Iowa and a party of 14 will be up for the weekend at his cabin on the south shore of Inguadona for some snowmobiling. 

 25 Years Ago

Feb. 13, 2001 

   Stella Marie Nelson died February 3rd. She moved to Remer with her family in 1935 from Iowa. After graduation from Remer High School in 1943 she worked at an ammunition plant in Nebraska. She married Marvin Nelson in Remer in 1946. She also was a waitress at Jondahl’s Café in Federal Dam.

   Several local students were named to the BSU Dean’s list for the fall semester: Darcy Faul of Outing, Anne Ingwell, Dan Beurskin and Annamarie Wake, all of Remer.

   Shawn Welk of Remer is a member of the Rotaract Club at Bemidji State University for the 2000-2001 school year.
