Author Will Weaver at Pine River Public Library
Award-winning Minnesota author Will Weaver will be visiting Pine River Library to read from his new book “Black Dirt, Bright Stars” on Tuesday, February 17th at 5:30pm.
Following his award-winning novel “Power & Light”, Weaver’s sequel Black Dirt, Bright Stars finds the close-knit Haugen family at their low point. They have lost their quest for justice within the law. They have lost their farm home to arson by powerful enemies. Revenge must wait, because “now we have work,” Jenny says. Not yet twenty, the youngest of four siblings, she takes a position as a typist at a county courthouse. There her eyes are opened as to “how the world works.” With calculation and tenacity, she carves out agency and power for herself and her family, always with an eye toward justice.
Will Weaver grew up in northern Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota and the Stanford University . His debut novel, “Red Earth, White Earth”, was published by Simon & Schuster and developed by CBS Television. His short story “A Gravestone Made of Wheat” became the award-winning indie film, “Sweet Land”, directed by Ali Selim, and starring Ned Beatty, Alan Cumming, and Alex Kingston. A two-time winner of the Minnesota Book Award, his adult novel “Power & Light”, was a finalist for the same award. He lives near Bemidji, Minnesota, on the Mississippi River with his wife, Rosalie.
This after-hours event will feature a book reading, Q & A, and signing session. Enjoy coffee and cookies while you connect with authors, writers, and reading enthusiasts. This program is funded in part by Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. For more information, please call the library at 218-587-4639 or email [email protected].
