Balsam Moon Preserve fall classes

Summer is quickly coming to an end and Fall is on its heels with activities at Balsam Moon Preserve continuing into the Fall and you are welcome to participate.

International Day of Peace Labyrinth Walk & Meditation is Sunday, September 21, 10-11 a.m. and offers you the opportunity to gather in community around this focus on a Day of Peace. The labyrinth at Balsam Moon is in the woods and offers a quiet time in nature. The theme for 2025 is Act Now for a Peaceful World.  Take time out, to slow down, reflect and walk the labyrinth for peace guided by Barb Mann.

A Seed Saving Class is offered on Saturday, September 27 in two parts. Part I is 10 a.m.-noon and is more presentation style. Part II is 1-3 p.m. and is hands-on seed saving with a few produce items and possibly some flowers. If participating in both sessions plan to bring a sack lunch. Barbara Kaufman of the Pine River Seed Library will be presenting and demonstrating. Participants will get seeds to take home, just bring your own containers (envelopes, small bottles with lids, plastic bags, etc.). If you have seeds to exchange or give away, you are welcome to bring them. If you have raised some seeds at home but have questions about how to process them, you may bring some with you and we will discuss some appropriate processing techniques.  A winnower will be available for processing small seeds such as lettuce.

Balsam Moon Preserve will once again participate in the National Solar Tour on Saturday, October 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. BMP has many applications of solar power including solar electric array, solar furnace, passive solar winter greenhouse and chicken coop, and passive solar garage to help keep the space warmer for the electric car in the winter. There are also alternative construction methods used for viewing including: cordwood, earthship – recycled tires, and timber-frame.

Registration for all classes and activities is encouraged by calling 218-587-3808 or emailing [email protected]. You are also welcome to come visit and simply walk the trails, grounds, flower gardens, labyrinth or sit by the pond and enjoy nature.

BMP operates on reciprocity, there’s a sliding fee scale for classes and activities are as you decide. You determine the value to you for any class or activity offered, giving in accordance to what you receive based on your resources.

BMP is a non-profit organization sharing an alternative, sustainable, spiritual place of peace, honoring the earth and all living things. They are located at 3148 Bungo Creek Ln SW, Pine River (6 miles west of Pine River out CR2 and 4 miles south on CR25 to Bungo Creek Ln).
