Author Bruce Carlson to speak at Hackensack HUB
The Hackensack Hub will host its monthly third Thursday potluck on Thursday, September 18 beginning at noon. The public is invited to attend. Author Bruce Carlson will be featured speaker beginning at 1 p.m. Carlson’s presentation will be “Understanding your Aging Body.” Come for a delicious potluck and stay for the speaker or just come for the presentation.
Bruce Carlson, MD, PhD, has a passion for writing books that explain science in a language understandable to non-scientists. His main occupation was a professor at the University of Michigan Medical School, where over 40 years he served as Chairman of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology and then as Director of the Institute of Gerontology. In a former life he was a fish biologist with an MS degree in ichthyology from Cornell, and a since his retirement he has spent many hours studying lakes and conducting research on fish. Professionally he conducted research on regeneration, embryology, muscle biology and aging. Through his biomedical research, he has lived in five countries outside the United States - the USSR, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, Finland and New Zealand. In addition to several hundred professional research reports and book chapters, he has written many articles for national fishing magazines. In addition to writing about 25 books on topics ringing from embryology and regeneration to lake biology, he has also edited 15 scientific books and translations of scientific books. In 2022, he established a publishing company, The Woodtick Press (woodtickpress.com), as an outlet for his non-professional books. An enthusiastic teacher, he has been given several prestigious teaching awards at the University of Michigan.
The HUB is located on South First Street, next to the Post Office in Hackensack.
