The Hill City/Northland Storm volleyball team hosted a small school tournament Saturday, Aug. 22. With eight teams in attendance, the Storm walked away with fourth place while Laporte took home first.
The Storm faced Fond-du-Lac for the first game of the day and walked away with a win in two sets, 25-6 and 25-14. They then faced Laporte and fell in three, 25-15; 15-25 and 13-15. The final game of the day was against Cook County, which ended in a loss in two sets, 19-25 and 22-25.
The Storm then hosted McGregor in Hill City Tues., Aug. 26 and walked away with a win in three, 25-8; 25-7 and 25-13. Stat leaders for the evening were senior Maddie Barnes with nine digs; sophmore Nora Wake with seven kills; senior Charity Berg with six kills; senior Ashlyn Schwarz with six ace serves and juniors Taylor Washburn and Dani Hannula with ten and 8 set assists respectively.
Head Coach Stacey Wake stated “Having an early tournament gave us an advantage over McGregor. It’s nice coming in to your first regular season game with some season experience already. The highlight of the season so far is our serving. As a team we are serving 95%.”
The ladies hosted Walker in Hill City on Thurs., Aug. 28 before going on a traveling streak. Their first stop will be at East Central on Tues., Sept. 2, then Chisholm on Thurs., Sept. 4 and wrapping up at Cromwell-Wright Tues., Sept. 9.
