History will come alive in Pine River this September as Forbes City Park transforms into a bustling fur trading camp from 200 years ago. Visitors are invited to experience this free, family-friendly event on Saturday, September 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Guests can explore authentic period lodgings, meet traders in historical dress, and witness live demonstrations that showcase the daily life and skills of early settlers and traders. Demonstrations will include primitive fire-starting, flint knapping, rope making, tomahawk and knife throwing, blacksmithing, open-fire cooking, bow and arrow shooting, bullet molding, period crafts, and weaving.
Saturday’s Highlights:
• Free “Settlers Stew” Lunch at noon, served by Pine River State Bank.
• Kids Games from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., including a gold nugget treasure hunt, sack and three-legged races, marble hunt, candy cannon, and more.
The event will take place at Forbes City Park, located on Hwy 84 in Pine River. From town, cross the dam and turn left—watch for signs.
This event is a chance to not just learn about history, but to experience it. Families can see, taste, and touch the past in a way that’s fun for all ages. Admission is free and open to the public.
