   Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk reports that on August 26th 2025 at 1:25 PM the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a boat crashing into the rocks and shoreline on the south shore of Leech Lake, near the Walker City Park. 

   Deputies and responders arrived and found a 2016 Regency Tri-toon, crashed on the shore. Theresa Kay Cechini, age 59, of Cass Lake, MN was located in the watercraft unresponsive. The female was removed from the watercraft and medical aid immediately rendered, with lifesaving efforts continued while being transported to the Walker airport where she was pronounced deceased. The female operator was the only occupant of the watercraft at the time of the incident. An autopsy by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office indicates the victim suffered from a medical emergency prior to the crash.

   Assisting at the scene was the Walker Police Department, Walker Fire Department, North Memorial Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care.
