The Cass County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America was recently presented the 2025 Save Our Streams award for excellence in their efforts to preserve clean water in our area. The award was announced at the National Ike’s Convention in Green Bay, Wisconsin and was presented to chapter president, Don Hoppe, by Willis Mattison, member of the Prairie Woods chapter in Detroit Lakes.
To celebrate this event, the chapter is hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser followed by a presentation by Dr. George Kraft - UW Professor of Water Resources and Director of the Center for Watershed Science and Education.
The event will be held on Thursday, November 13 at Union Church, 401 Lake Ave East, in Hackensack. The dinner consisting of spaghetti, salad, bread, and dessert will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. and a good will donation of $15.00 is suggested. Silent auction items will be available. If you would like to join the “Ikes” inquire at the event! Professor Kraft’s presentation will begin at 6:15 pm. Dr. Kraft’s outreach for the event involves discussing the science of nitrate leaching, national trends of nitrate consumption, and what groundwater looks like in the Central Sands of Wisconsin, with a view as to what it portends for our lake country and the Central Sands of Minnesota.
