Storm conclude season at 12-12
Hill City/Northland, seeded fourth, hosted seed five Ogilvie in a section 5A playoffs game. An anticipated close match up did not disappoint fans. “Unfortunately hitting errors and an unusual amount of serving errors played a crucial role in the Storm’s loss” said Head Coach Stacey Wake. “Despite that, the Storm played hard and a scrappy defense kept them in the game going the distance, falling just two points short of the win.”
The Storm ended up falling in five sets: 21-25; 25-18; 23-25; 25-16 and 13-15. Stat leaders for the night were Seniors Maddie Barnes with seven ace serves, 43 digs and one kill; Ashlyn Schwarz with seven kills, two ace serves and two blocks and Charity Berg with 11 kills and 21 digs. Junior Taylor Washburn ended the evening contributing nine kills, 24 set assists, three ace serves and 16 digs, while sophomore Nora Wake had 11 kills, one ace serve, 12 digs and three set assists.
With a final comment Wake stated “ I wanted that win for the girls. They’ve had a pretty good year and I think we were the better team. You can’t have a lot of unforced errors though in a close matchup. But one game doesn’t define a whole season. This was a great group of girls and I wish the best for all five of our seniors. They are going to do great things.”
